Senpai!! || Kageyama Tobio (1)

Kageyama Tobio has never been well known for his proficiency in English, so when he receives a failing score on his eighth quiz in a row, nobody is surprised. Kageyama himself is surprised, however, when his teacher pulls him aside after the period ends and tells him that he needs to get an English tutor if he wants to pass the class with even a C.


So here he is, standing in front of a second-year classroom with only the name and a brief description of the person he should be looking for given to him by Sawamura the day before. It’s a few minutes before classes start, but from how many people already filing into the room, Kageyama knows that most of the class is already in there. Must be a college-prep class thing since most of the kids in his class don’t show up until the warning bell is about to ring.


A few of the girls going into the class glance at him and giggle, joking to their friends about how cute that first year boy is! Kageyama’s face bursts into a bright red blush, but he shakes his head and walks into the classroom.


“Uh… Is [Surname]-san in here…?” A few people look his way and he turns his head to the side in embarrassment. “I need to ask her something...”


“Oi [Surname]-chan, there’s some first-year here wanting to confess to you!”


Said first year isn't sure his face has ever been as red in his entire life. He's shaking his head back and forth until you chuckle and stand up.


"I don't think you should be so cruel to the boy, Miyuki-kun. Sawamura-kun told me there's a first year boy that needs some english help." Your smirk is enough to send Kageyama's heart into overdrive. "Anyways, you can't make fun of him too much because if I remember correctly, you didn't do so hot on your last English assignment, did you?"


Miyuki's snickering dies immediately as his classmates start laughing at him and Kageyama sends him his own glare, shutting him up further. Even though the setter is a year younger than everyone in the room, his glare can shut almost anyone down in seconds. With the soft touch of your hand around his wrist, Kageyama’s face becomes impossibly more red.


He’s in the hallway when you let go of his wrist, giving him a small smile.


“You must be Kageyama Tobio, Sawamura’s already told you, but I’m [Surname] [First]. It’s nice to meet you.” Kageyama scratches the back of his head and bores holes into the floor with his eyes. “Are you busy during lunch today?”


The setter shakes his head and you tell him to meet you here during lunch to go over what times and days to have your study sessions.


Kageyama walks to class in a daze, counting down the minutes until lunch.
